Ann Arbor, Feb. 11, 1982 This photograph was airmailed to Yonkers from Sevilla. Papi told me that it was taken to commemorate a prize or a medal given to his father for the design and construction of an agricultural machine, at the Fair of 1897. At the time they lived near the Plaza de San Julian, in a solar within the old walls of the city, where they had beside their house una huerta y un taller. The solar was still there when I visited in 1967, but construction seemed imminent. His father died one year later and they moved to Alameda de Hercules 74, with their tia Rosario (La Chacha) step sister of his father. She was rather well off and had no children. (Joselito lived next to them). Papi attended the school of La Maestranza until he went to the Engineers Academy in Guadalajara in 1905.
